One of the many ways that I receive messages from uinverse is by noting repetitive messages in the form of people or words or occurrences. Everyone has their own unique way and this is mine.
I keep seeing acts of selfishness. I do not believe that people should be labeled as unkind or rude or selfish. These adjectives are words of description for an action but not for a whole being.
Back to the point. I have noticed one too many acts of selfishness in the last months. Many people said to me that it is human nature to be selfish. Every man for himself. This is the way of the world. Is this all true?
Selfishness is the nature of the ego not the human being. It is the art of withholding, controlling, quotas, walking the world with blinders etc. The very nature of the ego is limited. It causes us to think and act in very limited ways. We hold onto false notions of ourselves so tightly that we give up meaningful friendships and relationships based on this act of selfishness.
Another reason for selfishness is fear. A very wise person, Dr Joseph Murphy once said that there are only two things in this world, fear and love. Selfishness is the result of fear. Fear of losing ourselves because we haven't found ourselves.
It is not the act of selfishness that matters but our response to it. It is vital that we act in a way that generates good karma and promotes inner harmony. From my experience I have learned to dismiss these acts rather than take them personally. However if repeated acts of selfishness hurt you than it is wise to let the person know how it has affected you negatively.
Empathy, compassion and understanding should be step 1. Looking past it after letting go should be steps 2 and 3.
Selfishness is not human nature. It is ego nature.
